The next teacher will need to be able to teach.
As part of their role, they will need access to a classroom, as well as a range of materials, such as books, maps, music, films, and computer equipment.
The key is that they have the appropriate skillset, the right curriculum and the right teacher.
“It’s the kind of thing that is not going to happen overnight,” Ms. Furlong said.
“You have to have a plan, be realistic about what you’re doing and then be flexible about when and how you do it.
If you don’t have the right person, the resources are not going out the door.”
Ms. Lippman said the key is to look at all of the tools available.
“The biggest challenge is going to be in getting the right materials and the tools to enable teachers to work in a timely manner,” she said.
It’s all about the teachers “It has to be a mix of teachers and materials and tools, because it will take time for all of those things to come together,” Ms Lippmann said.
The other challenge, she said, is ensuring that teachers are trained in the classroom, the environment and how to engage with their students.
“I don’t think we are in a place where we are teaching enough to teach in a way that’s actually learning,” she added.
“And I think that that’s something that teachers need to focus on, because I think it’s a big challenge that we’re not taking the right lessons from our students.”
The research is based on a 2014 survey of 3,500 primary teachers conducted by the University of Toronto’s Maternal and Child Health Research Institute.
