How Illinois teachers earned the highest salaries in the nation

In the last two years, Illinois teachers have earned more than $14 million in salary, bonuses, and other benefits, according to data from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Inspector General.

Teachers also earn more in salary than any other state’s employees, according the study.

But the state’s high salaries and other perks were mostly due to one thing: the state has some of the most generous teacher pay in the country.
